The death of Mexican actress Edith González, a fixture in soapy telenovelas since her days as a child actress, prompted an overwhelming and emotional reaction from celebrities from the world of Spanish-language entertainment.

That was due not only to the star's success in the business, but her brave battle against cancer. She was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer in 2016. She fought the disease publicly, walking the red carpet in 2017 at Mexico City's Luminus Awards on April 27, 2017, proudly displaying her bald head. "I feel happy and radiant," she said at the time, according to Clarin.

Her death on June 13 at age 54 inspired moving tributes from her fellow performers.

Alfonso Herrera

"Thanks for having been part of my path, for your words, for your affection. A part of you will remain here with me. Rest in peace, beloved Edith."

Daniela Romo

"My little 'Gypsy' – Thanks for your excellence, for your strength, for your smile, for inspiring so many, for honoring life with your essence. (Have a) good journey."

Eugenio Derbez

You will always be a great example of life ... And above all, thank you for making this world a better place. Rest in peace, beautiful Edith!"
